Taivalkoski introduction

BestPark Taivalkoski takes visitors to the intersection of four different national parks. It offers visitors extraordinary nature experiences in fantastic scenery. In Taivalkoski, which is located in the northeast highlands of Northern Ostrobothnia, you can draw strength from the stillness and really feel the touch of nature throughout the year. Here, it really pays off to just stop for a moment and take in the scenery.

There are plenty of hiking areas and trails to trek. At the highest point of Taivalkoski on the Pyhitystunturi fell, you can admire the spectacular view at an altitude of 422 metres. Visiting the fell is especially rewarding in the summer, when even children can climb the rocky trail all the way to the top. Featuring an adventure park, ski resort, canoeing centre and other places of activity, the park allows visitors to engage in sports and other outdoor activities all year round. During the summer, the clean fishing waters and forests filled with berries offer an abundance of natural delicacies for the visitors. In the winter, you can make the most of your stay at the ski resort by trying out dog sledding or renting a snowmobile.

Taivalkoski offers a wide range of cultural activities. If you’re hungry for culture, there are various events and year-round cultural destinations to choose from. In the beginning of July, the Kalle Päätalo Society organises the annual Päätalo week, which focuses on the life and works of the region’s best-known author. In the town centre, you can make a tour of the cultural trail Taivalkoski of a Thousand Stories and stop for coffee at the marketplace named after Kalle Päätalo, who was born in Taivalkoski. The over 18-metre long art bridge “Over Time” (Yli ajan) brings the Putaansaari island, which has remained undisturbed for a long time, back into contact with the rest of Taivalkoski. The mysterious Fairy Tale Trail leads both children and adults through the spectacular hillside scenery of Taivalkoski and into the magical world of fairy tales. The Jalava store, the oldest shop in Finland still in business, introduces visitors to genuine old-time atmosphere. In addition to this fascinating ambience, the shop also offers traditional clothing, handicrafts and café products

Taivalkoski offers excellent opportunities for diverse outdoor activities and is particularly popular among those who travel by car. It is easy for caravans to turn to the two-plus caravan park near the ski resort, which is located 150 kilometres from Oulu and about 60 kilometres from Kuusamo.
